What a beast! Narrowed it down to this and the Hitachi (which I have used and is also top drawer) - went for this as it was in the sale and the fact that it came with a good selection of very decent bits. Its an 800W drill but blows my old one (850W) out of the water. Care is needed - it is extremely powerful. Good length mains cord, its reassuringly heavy (not too heavy) and feels well balanced. The front handle adjustment is a breeze, and with the extra bits and a very nice case it is great value for money - even at RRP. Don't forget to register it on Makita website for a 3 year warranty.
Very happy with this drill, excellent performance and a massive time saver when drilling through walls and removing lots of tiles. Bangs through masonry like it's wet paper. A massive improvement over typical hammer drills. Handy selection of bits included and a robust case of a nice size. Included bits aren't the longest so if you're looking to drill right through those walls you might have to buy something a bit longer. Also the chisel bit isn't ideal for tile removing, though it does the job.
I'm a plumber and I use Makita power tools all the time. My old HR2400 drill finally started having bad clutch slip after 15 years of heavy use last week and I've now replaced it with the HR2630. I expect a similar lifespan for this one, and it came with the promised drill and bit set from Amazon.
Given the number of other reviews on here, it's pointless me adding another, but all I would say if you buy one is don't forget to go onto the Makita UK site and register it (and the same goes for any Makita tools you buy) in order to get their three year guarantee.
This has the added benefit of recording its serial number with your details, so if it's pinched by some scum sucker and then recovered, it will be traceable back to you.
Incidentally, you might find you can buy it cheaper on eBay, but beware, as there are a lot of sellers flogging non-UK Makita kit on there (I made the mistake of buying a cordless angle grinder, only to find it was from some obscure Arabian market) and you get absolutely no guarantee at all from Makita UK with non-UK kit. Stick to Amazon themselves and you'll be okay.
Great Value for the money used to extract broken fence posts from concrete and to tidy up holes. The supplied bits are small so don't expect to be drilling through walls with them! If you need extra or longer bits the MAKITA set is good value
Decent quality carrying case too
The item was all it was up to,as described. Price was a surprise as I had been quoted a much higher price by other suppliers. It does what it said on the description. Delivery on the date quoted. Brilliant service. Thank You.
